New High Performance Propeller

Precision Propeller Industries has just released its new high performance FXP propeller that is promising to bring improved acceleration and handling, boosting overall performance.

According to Boating Magazine, ” That performance includes very minimal bow rise during hole shot, and the lower the bow, the greater the forward visibility. At the same time, the FXP provides more overall lift. The result is excellent hole shot,speed and stable handling, even at high engine speeds.”

Warren Miller Places 2nd At Soloman Island

The MitiGator boat driven by Warren Miller placed 2nd in Soloman Island, Maryland over the past weekend. Warren began the race strong picking off boats from the start heading towards the lead position.

On the 6th lap Warren was able to pull into third before taking a sharp turn at too high a speed causing the boat to nearly flip on its side. “The boat was so far up on the side that my helmet was in the water. In fact, my helmet filled up with water for a few seconds. I thought I was going to drown in my helmet” said Warren after the race.

Warren praised the MitiGator Cushioning System installed in his seats for protecting him during that sharp turn that nearly capsized the boat. Once Warren recovered he managed to finish the race in third, however, the lead boats did not make weight which gave Warren a second place finish. Benefits of the MitGator and Shock MitiGation Systems

When it comes to boating, engineers have focused on developing seat cushions and other boating equipment to provide the maximum amount of protection from extreme water conditions. With all the focus on safety, many designers seemed to have forgotten comfort as an important element when developing seating equipment for high-speed boating(HSC).

Over 65% of high-speed craft operators surveyed reported having received at least some sort of injury ranging from sprains to chronic lower back pain. These injuries are due to consistent and violent motions HSC go through when operated. These common injuries are prompting engineers to create shock mitigation seats to reduce whole body vibration and decrease the chance of injury when operating HSC. These seats have a spring suspension system that is structured to withstand abuse from choppy water conditions.

When testing the seats, engineers used Dynamic Response Index or DRI as a way to measure seat effectiveness. DRI is a measure the chance a HSC operator will receive a spinal injury or lower back event in a military or high-speed environment. On a 36 ft HSC, shock mitigation seating reduced shock vibration by up to 49%. HSC of 47ft and 89ft had similar reductions.

To accompany shock mitigation seating, seat cushioning is also crucial in protecting occupants from violent water conditions.
