Team Mitigator High Priority Offshore Racing is ready for an event-filled 2010
At the last race of 2009 Team Mitigator concluded the season 2nd in Geico Triple Crown point standings. It was needless to say a bitter sweet moment. While this was a tremendous feat considering the competition level in the OPA (Offshore Powerboat Association), it left the team asking some what-if’s. The last race of the season saw the team sidelined with a broken valve while running in the third position. Who knows what the outcome would have been if they could of pulled off the victory.
I will admit, Off-shore racing is something new to me, but I find it fascinating. There is no other type of motorsport that can be near as dangerous in my opinion. For instance the car I drive in the USARacing Pro cup Series, travels somewhere between 100 – 160mph depending on the track size and conditions. But we are strapped into the seats, and the cars are built with a roll cage designed completely for safety. But these boats can travel just as fast if the water conditions are ideal, and they don’t even wear a seatbelt. Now of course this is by design, because if the boat goes under, obviously you don’t want to go with it. Not to say that these boats aren’t safe this is why Owner and Driver Warren Miller Outfitted the boat seats with Mitigator in the first place to help protect him from not only accidents, but also the amazing air that these boats will encounter due to the harsh seas.
Being that I am a novice at this offshore racing. My plan is to chronicle Team Mitigator this season through their highs and lows, and show what it takes to compete at the level that High Priority offshore racing does. But also at the same time I am going to do my best to help offshore racing grow. It already has a huge fan-base, and attracts literally millions of people to the coasts around this nation.
For 2010, we have some great things in store for this website. I will be doing multiple blogs on this website about Team Mitigator and offshore racing. Also, I will be attending a few races where we will be doing a live webcast from the event. You fans that can’t make it to the race will be able to tune in and watch the race from the convenience of your home. Another idea we have is to do a video blog or a webcast with the team.

Team MitiGator™ Racers Warren Miller and John Gibson discuss engine performance on board the race boat. Cross fertilization between the sports is one of the objectives of Team MitiGator™.
High Priority Offshore Racing Team MitiGator™ started in P6 in the “OPA GEICO Triple Crown US Championship” in Cambridge, MD on Sunday September 20. This was the third and final race of the 2009 Miss GEICO Triple Crown which lays claim to the Largest Purses in Offshore Racing History. The competition in Class 500 was strong in the Triple Crown with some of the leading names in offshore racing contending in the OPA. Team MitiGator™, with first time crewman Al Colbertson at the throttles, climbed to 3rd before engine trouble took them out of the race. The MitiGator™ boat had to be towed to the crane after the race was completed.
Holding their winnings are Celeste Janson, Warren Miller and Carla Masse.
History. The competition in Group 5 is fierce in the Triple Crown with some of the biggest names in offshore racing contending in the OPA. Team MitiGator™ has combined this 4th place finish with a 3rd place finish at Ocean City earlier this year to take the lead (1st place) in the Miss Geico Triple Crown points. This also keeps them in 2nd place in the OPA national point’s race for 2009.
